James Parks represents clients in commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions, development and leasing, lending, and other general commercial contract issues.
In real estate matters, James has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating commercial leases, purchase and sale agreements, development agreements, reciprocal easement agreements, restrictive covenants, and licensing and parking agreements, and review of title and survey issues.
In addition to real estate, James represents lenders and financial institutions in loan transactions secured by real estate and various other assets. He also assists companies in formations, asset purchase and sale agreements and negotiates and advises companies on a wide variety of contracts.
James is a recipient of Martindale-Hubbell’s® AV® Preeminent™ 5.0/5.0 legal peer review rating, the highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards. He has been named a “Rising Star” by Texas Monthly/Law & Politics Magazine, a recognition given to only approximately 2.5% of eligible attorneys in Texas, by Texas Monthly Magazine, and named one of Dallas’ “Best Lawyers Under 40” by D Magazine, a recognition given to only approximately 4% of the eligible attorneys in Dallas.
Prior to joining BakerLopez, James was in charge of leasing and lease administration as the Director of Real Estate – Legal for Zale Corporation’s approximately 1,700 retail jewelry locations in the US and Canada, as well as its headquarters and distribution facilities. He is known nationally for his experience in retail and shopping center leasing and development, and was named by Chain Store Age Magazine, a retail industry publication, as the only practicing attorney listed in a group of real estate professionals in a segment called “Ones to Watch.”
James received his J.D. and B.B.A. degrees from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law and Cox School of Business, respectively. In his free time, James is active in his church, and enjoys reading, spending time with family, traveling, lifting weights, and boxing.
